The Montessori Child Development Centre

Pre-School Program: The Foundation for Excellence

Ages 3 to 6 Years

In our Pre-School (Primary) classroom, the focus shifts toward refining the senses and preparing the mind for academic abstraction. Children work in a multi-age setting, which fosters a unique community where older children mentor younger ones. The curriculum is a three-year cycle that moves from the concrete to the abstract, ensuring that by the time a child graduates to Grade 1, they have a deep, intuitive understanding of mathematics, literacy, and the world around them.

Key Learning Areas

Mathematical Mind

We don’t just teach children to count; we help them understand quantity. Using the “Golden Beads,” children as young as four visualize the decimal system and perform operations like addition and subtraction into the thousands. By manipulating physical materials, they “see” the math before they ever write it down.

Literacy through Discovery

Writing often precedes reading in the Montessori method. Children use “Sandpaper Letters” to trace the shapes of sounds, connecting the muscular memory of the hand to the phonetic sound. This leads to the “Moveable Alphabet,” where they begin to compose their own words and stories long before they can master a pencil.

Grace and Courtesy

Education is more than academics. We explicitly teach social “Grace and Courtesy”—how to greet a guest, how to resolve a conflict with words, and how to move gracefully through a shared space. These lessons build the character and social poise that define a confident leader.
